Spurs set to retire Tony Parker's number in November
After calling it a career June, future Hall of Famer Tony Parker didn’t have to wait long for his San Antonio Spurs to retire his number.
The Spurs announced on Friday that they will retire his No. 9 during Nov. 11’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Parker becomes the 10th player whose number the Spurs have retired, joining former teammates Bruce Bowen (12), Tim Duncan (21), Manu Ginobili (20) and David Robinson (50).
Forming a big three with Duncan and Ginobili, Parker helped lead the Spurs to four championships and became the first European Finals MVP in 2007. He was a six-time All-Star and four-time All-NBA player and has his name littered across the record books for points and assists.
Parker made the playoffs all 17 seasons he spent in San Antonio, which stands as the third-longest streak in NBA history. He had a chance to extend that streak last season with the Charlotte Hornets — his only one with a different team — but they fell two games shy of the postseason.
That his number would quickly be retired comes as no surprise to Parker, especially after seeing Duncan and Ginobili honored, but that moment remains powerful to him nonetheless.
“It’s going to be hard to imagine,” Parker told The Undefeated after his retirement. “But it’s going to be the last time that we can celebrate The Big Three in that era, so I hope it’s going to be a special night for everybody.
Following his retirement, Parker said that he plans to live in San Antonio and frequently travel back to France. He is also the owner of ASVEL, a professional basketball team in Lyon, France.

Fans quickly took notice of the game where Parker will have his number retired, and tickets will prove costly for anyone who wants to buy them.
The lowest price for a seat at the Nov. 11 game on StubHub is $143 as of Friday night, making it the most expensive home game of the season. There’s even one ticket for a courtside seat that is listed at $7,701.51, including fees.
Getting to see your favorite player’s number retired may feel priceless, but this may be one moment to watch from home.
