Former Cleveland Cavaliers player selected as general manager for Orlando Magic

In talking to Anthony Parker when he played guard and forward for the Cleveland Cavaliers in his last there NBA seasons, it was clear he had larger goals on his mind.

Those goals are becoming realized.

Parker was named general manager of the Orlando Magic Thursday, and is now tasked with turning around a team that finished 34-48 last season and 13th in the Eastern Conference.

Parker had been with the Magic since his Cavs playing days ended, serving as a scout, G League executive, assistant general manager and now general manager.

During three seasons with the Cavs, he averaged 7.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. After ending his playing career after the 2011-12 season, he joined the Magic where he started as a scout. He served as general manager of the Lakeland Magic for four seasons, assembling the team that won the 2020-21 league title. He returned to the Orlando team two seasons ago as assistant general manager.
