    Biography


    Early NBA Career

    Stephen Jackson is a NBA veteran, who was drafted 43rd overall by the Phoenix Suns in 1997. Jackson was waived by the Suns and did not play in the NBA until the 2000-2001 season for the New Jersey Nets. In 2001-2002, Jackson signed with the San Antonio Spurs and the following year he made a name for himself, as the Spur's third leading scorer in the playoffs on their way to the 2003 NBA Championship. The next year, Jackson signed with the Atlanta Hawks, improving his scoring to over 18 points a game.

    Indiana Pacers

    Following the 2003-2004 season, Jackson was traded to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Al Harrington. In Indiana he continued to score over 18 points per game, but his season was tarnished by a brawl between the Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons on November 19, 2004. After teammate Ron Artest was hit by a beer cup thrown by a fan following an altercation with Pistons center Ben Wallace, Artest went into the stands to confront the fan and when punches started being thrown, Jackson too entered the stands and became involved in the ruckus. For his role in the incident, Jackson received a 30 game suspension.

    On October 6th, 2006 Jackson would again make the news after a conflict outside of a strip club in which, after being stuck by a car in an altercation, Jackson fired a handgun into the air. After pleading guilty to a charge of criminal recklessness, Jackson was suspended by the NBA for 7 games at the beginning of the 2007-2008 season.

    Golden State Warriors

    On January 17, 2007 Jackson was traded to the Warriors in a multi-player deal along with Al Harrington, Šarūnas Jasikevičius and Josh Powell in exchange for Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy, Ike Diogu, and Kieth McLeod. Jackson and Harrington, along with the Warrior's Baron Davis, Monta Ellis and Jason Richardson, made up an explosive offensive team and ultimately upset the 1st seed Dallas Mavericks in the NBA playoffs, becoming the 8th seed in NBA history to accomplish that feet in a 7 game series.

    Before the 2007-2008 season, Jackson was named one of the teams captains, along with Davis and Matt Barnes. Jackson lived up to his role, averaging 20 points a game for the first time in his career.

    In Novemeber 2008, Jackson signed a contract extension, keeping him with the Warriors through the 2012/2013 season.
